Designed by W.W. Bosworth & Associates and built in 1916, the President’s House was part of the newly relocated campus from Boston to Cambridge. As such, it has always been considered a landmark befitting special historical significance to the MIT community. The house is 15,000 square feet, contains two floors, a basement and a penthouse. The second floor and penthouse levels are used as the President’s private residence, with the first floor and gardens used for visiting dignitaries, visitors, and the MIT community.
The project began with a feasibility study which offered three renovation variables and budgets. Working closely with all parties, our team was able to merge multiple agendas. The scope of the work included creative resolution to handicapped accessibility by adding a new entrance, extensive HVAC, electrical and life safety upgrades, building envelope renovations, and new windows. New furnishings and interior design and renovations completed the project.
